NATIONAL CENTRE OF SPECIALIZATION (NCOS) IN AQUACULTURE
The National Centre of Specialization in Aquaculture consists of the three research institutes along the value chain of aquaculture. These institutes are National Institute for Oceanography and Marine Research (NIOMR), Lagos; National Stored Products Research Institute (NSPRI), Ilorin and National Institute for Fresh Water Fisheries Research (NIFFR), New Bussa.
SCIENTIFIC COMMITTEE INAUGURATED
A scientific committee for NCoS has been inaugurated. The maiden edition of the Scientific Committee was officially inaugurated on Tuesday, 14th October, 2014 at the Board Room of Nigerian Institute for Oceanography and Marine Research, Victoria Island, Lagos by the National Project Coordinator. Members of the committee include:

The status of implementation of activities at the NCoS is as follows:
UPGRADE OF INFRASTRUCTURE AND EQUIPMENT
Evaluation process for selection of consultant for the design and supervision of civil works is still on-going.
Construction of new laboratories and rehabilitation of the old ones is yet to commence due to the fact that the consultant for design and supervision of the work is yet to be engaged
Six boreholes were constructed at the NCoS-NIFFR
Some equipment forNCoS-NIOMR and NCoS-NSPRI have been procured.
Laboratory equipment for NCoS-NIFFR has been advertised and are in the process of evaluation.
The e-library has been installed in the NCoS-NIFFR New Bussa and it is functional.
100KVA generating set was procured for NCoS-NIFFR
The NCoS Aquaculture has successfully developed seven technologies. The technologies are currently in the process of being multiplied for end users. The technologies are as follows:
Improved Smoking Kiln
All male Tilapia
Clupeid for Feed Meal
Evaluation of local fish feed on gonadal retention in catfish for all year fingerling production
